only the good die young

a professor and friend of mine had a heart attack and died last night while traveling for a conference.  i think he was in his early 40s, and i just found out he had a son.  tragic.  he was a very talented engineer, very practical and knowledgeable, a good scientist, a good teacher, and a good man.  i just had lunch with him a couple of weeks ago, which i guess will be the last time i saw him.  i'll miss him very much.

it really brings home to me how fragile life is, how we never know when the ride is going to be over, and how little time we have on this planet.

Sorry about your loss mike. I hope you're doing better. I just lost a friend and colleague as well. He was one of the kindest men i knew and was one of the best directors i've had. It was such a freak accident - he fell out of his living room window. :( how does that even happen?? With all the woes in the world, it just reminds us to stay connected to our family & friends and cherish them while they're still here.

exactly my thoughts...the past year has really taught me to make the most out of what you're given. i don't plan on wasting my life (however much i've got left) on things that don't matter. that's the silver lining, i suppose.

as an update to this post, i went to his service, he was actually 46 (still very young)...and a great man. sometimes the world just isn't fair.
